Feedback From Mr Davies
We asked Mr Davies to show his two young daughters our book and ask them what they thought of it, here is some feedback from Daisy and Holly on what they thought of Septopus Sally: The Extraordinary Octopus:
Daisy (5) liked the story. She liked the descriptive words like spikey and tentacles because that helped her imagine what they looked and felt like. She liked the pictures at the start of the story with the yellow submarine. She really understood the story and didn't like it when the classmates were mean!
Holly (7) liked at the beginning that she was going to school and it is something you can understand doing yourself. It was unexpected that the classmates were not nice to her and then a great story as the others were all kind and helpful. Great examples of good friendship and good advice when you are sad. The whale with no teeth and the spikey starfish were well described and good characters. It could be improved with more descriptive bits of characters etc. Maybe a little story about the whale getting stuck on the shore as an example of how to get out of a situation (I think I know what she means!). Happy ending was good. She also liked the "blurb" on the back page (they talk about the blurb a lot in school apparently!). Good mix of funny and serious. Ally enjoyed it!
